  Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?
A state of mind, enhanced by mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind.

How does it feel to be hypnotised?
Most client’s are amazed at how relaxing the therapy is, and leave the session feeling calm and happy.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Virtually everyone, providing they wish to be and providing there are no medical contra-indications. These are always discussed with the client prior to any therapy being agreed.

Will I lose control?
No. The client is always in control. You cannot be made to do or say anything you do not wish to. Hypnotherapy employs hypnotherapeutic techniques exclusively for the benefit of the client. It is a calming and relaxing process and should not be confused with stage hypnotism.

But why do stage hypnotists seem to be able to control their subjects, and make them do ridiculous things?
The impression of the ‘subjects’ losing control is a misleading one. Participation in those stage performances is an entirely voluntary process – the volunteer gives permission to the hypnotist and knows exactly what they’re letting themselves in for!

Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No - but if you are currently receiving medical treatment for the complaint or a related complaint, the therapist may request that you obtain permission from your doctor.

Is there a code of practice?
As a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register, Christopher Stone operates under a Code of Ethics & Practice, which ensures that the interests and confidentiality of the client are safeguarded. This includes a Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure, and the practice maintains full Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance.
