Fears & Phobias

Fears & Phobias

Fear is the powerful emotion we feel when we perceive danger. Phobias are irrational fears which persist over time.

No-one likes to feel fearful. We do our best to avoid that feeling. However it’s a vitally important emotional signal linked to our very survival to ensure that we take action in the face of a realistic threat to ourselves or our loved ones.

When we experience fear without good cause, it leads to a myriad of problems that blight our lives. Misplaced fear is at the root of much psychological distress.

Phobias come in a wide range. Some of the most common are a fear of heights, or a fear of flying, but phobias can be linked to some unlikely stimuli. So-called ‘irrational’ fear can be attached to almost any situation or object. Obscure phobias are no less fear-inducing than the more frequently encountered ones.

Hypnotherapy is commonly used to good effect to bring an end to those restrictive and unwanted fearful feelings that drive the phobic response. Being free from a phobia, particularly a long-standing one, brings a wonderful sense of relief and release to an individual.
